PolicyLink Makes The Case for Why Place and Race Matter

Bureau Blank has designed the Why Place & Race Matter report and executive summary for PolicyLink.

National research and action institute PolicyLink has released Why Place & Race Matter to "make the undeniable case that race must be central to the decisions made by policymakers, advocates, and community leaders if we ever hope to close the racial health gap." Following 2007's Why Place Matters publication, this report is PolicyLink's latest major development in its support for building healthy, equitable communities across the country.

In addition to designing the publications, Bureau Blank created a graphic icon system to allow for easy navigation of the content and to reflect PolicyLink's belief that strong communities balance four key "environments" -- economic, social, physical, and service. Our system approaches the environments through a botanic framework, where an understanding of place and race serves as the root foundation and the four environments flourish together as extensions of that foundation.
